The 100 Miler is Here!

find out more at http://www.100milegaragesale.org/
It is that time of year again:  visitors from all over flock to the scenic highways wrapping Lake Pepin, along the shores of the upper Mississippi River, all searching for the deal of a lifetime.

Well, a super awesome deal on some treasure you can't live without that has been dwelling in someone's garage just waiting for you, that is.

Every year for the past seven years, my mom and two best friends and I have loaded up and headed out in search of a good deal.  We've got a plan that works well for us:  Starting on Friday morning we hit Prescott, WI and head south along the Great River Road (Hwy 35 South) to Nelson, shopping the whole way.  (This year, we're thinking about lunching in Stockholm, a  lovely little artsy establishment with a nice cafe and a pie shop, too.)  And then we cross the river to Wabasha, Minnesota, spend the night in the comfort of the AmericInn hotel with complimentary breakfast of waffles and hot coffee, and spend all day Saturday driving north on the other side of the river to Red Wing, MN.  Again, we shop and shop and shop.  It is amazing what you can find.  My mom and bestie #1 seek out kids clothes, bestie #2 looks for garden related and home cookery items, and as for me, I look for pretty much anything that catches my fancy.  This year, I'm hoping for some old wooden fruit crates and a chain link dog kennel enclosure to re-purpose as a pigeon aviary (more on that later).

The funny thing about the 100 Miler is whatever you think, oh, yeah...I need to find one of those, you usually will find it.  Now, whether you can afford to buy it once you find it is another story all together, but you will find it.

Hooray for garage sales!  It must be spring.
